Joni Seager Speech

In this speech, the viewer is immediately informed by Seager that climate change is happening right now and that there is hard, concrete evidence backing this up. Seager emphasizes that global warming is true and it is not just some myth or conspiracy. Seager explains that this is a threat to our planet and there needs to be some policy leaders to help fix the situation. It is imperative to Seager that the habitants of this planet wake up and realize we all collectively need to treat our home better. Seager offers up a strategy called MAD in the beginning to show us how we can help change what is going on. Not only are we affecting the poles and the icecaps but if the temperature were to increase by just 2 degrees, it would effect almost everything. It would mean our planet would be 2 degrees warmer and that as a very negative effect on crops, people, and could even lead to the entire population in Africa dying. Something that really stood out to me was when Seager was talking about the companies who over pollute. These companies are so big that they can buy out the smaller companies facilities and then just contribute even more to over pollution.

I learned that 2 degrees does not sound much, but it would have an enormous, nightmarish impact on this planet. 2 degrees can destroy crops and we would have nothing to eat. It could also have a very bad effect on the human population in general and everything and everyone would start to change. Finally, it could wipe out the entire population of a continent–Africa. I also learned that there are little things we all can do to help improve the quality of our planet. Some of these things may include car pooling to cut back on pollution and it would help to keep the Earth clearer and cleaner. Companies can start taking more social responsibility and find different ways to cut back on the pollution that they are contributing to. Little by little the world will heal as long as the habitants within start to change their ways. No one would pollute so much inside of their own home, so why should those people pollute all over our home? We all share the planet and it is all of our homes and the world needs to do a better job of taking care of it.

The central focus to the speech was talking about how climate change is imminent and we all need to do something about it. Seager’s main call to action is that there needs to be policy leaders and more regulations on these companies who are over polluting and buying out smaller companies so they can just continue to over pollute. Companies need to either change their ways of polluting or accept responsibility and along with that they would need to accept any consequences. Overall, climate change is imminent and there needs to be policies and more regulations to stop the spread of pollution from across the globe.
